About the Boxcar

The boxcar project includes its relocation and complete restoration. An interim paint job will be done to make the car a bit more presentable. After so many years of neglect, there is a lot of rust.

The main players in this project are the Chemung Valley Railway Historical Society (CVRHS) and the Eldridge Park Carousel Preservation Society (EPCPS).

Norfolk Southern Railroad Corporation donated the car to CVRHS and moved it to Eldridge Park.

The car will be located in the close proximity of the carousel so that it can become a functional part of the Park's restoration project. It has been suggested that the boxcar could serve a number of uses such as a ticket booth for future attractions or an attraction in its own right.
