ime
capsules have been placed inside several of our outer row animals
with contents provided by their sponsors. Most of the capsules
were created during the carving of the animal. Bosco's time capsule,
however, was placed inside just before she took her place on the
Carousel at Eldridge Park. We have a number of photos which were
taken that day as Tom Wingert, one of our EPCPS volunteers, was
there to help with the process.
Bosco
sponsor Marcelle Lawas, DDS tells this story about Bosco and which
is entitled "Bosco, The Best Doggone Dental Assistant."
"I admired the Zen-like quality in which she performed
her duties. She possessed a quiet confidence with her well-trained
gestures, responding to the dentists' cues. She was at one with
her job and all the while enjoying herself. We worked well together
as a team. Without prompting on my part, we were in sync for whatever
situation arose. In the dental office it was her gift of genuine
compassion and charismatic personality that seemed to calm the
anxious patients. This particular assistant was not formally trained
in four-handed technique but instead was four-legged. She was
"Bosco" the Dental Dog.
"More
than just a family pet, "Bosco" was a career girl that
took her job seriously. For much of her life, "Bosco"
would delight and educate children at many elementary and preschools.
Annually, she would perform 15 to 20 presentations during the
month of February, National Children's' Dental Health Month, teaching
and demonstrating healthy dental habits and proper oral hygiene
techniques. Aside from her work at the dental office, schools
and health fairs, "Bosco" could be found visiting the
residents of nursing homes sharing final smiles and exchanges
of affection. Although her absence is palpable, her spirit lives
on in "Bosco" the Tiger, as the tiger continues "Bosco's"
tradition of bringing smiles and delighting those she meets."
