Oscar Pivaral

orn in Guatemala in 1953, Oscar Pivaral immigrated to the United States in the early 1960s, settled in San Francisco in 1979, and began his career in carousel sculpting. Honing his craft and studying the great masters of carousel art, he has developed a style that is uniquely his own.

Oscar PivaralOver the years, he has developed a staff to include master carvers, skilled wood workers and professional artists. The sculpture studio has been equipped with state-of-the-art woodworking and finishing equipment and tools gathered from European, Japanese and Domestic markets.

His monitored storage facilities ensure the quality maintenance for carving, with constant temperature and moisture standards for his materials. Oscar’s fine craftsmanship can be seen in American theme parks, such as Disney, and as far away as Japan, Europe and fine homes around the world.

All carvings are finished in a variety of standard finishes which include stains, paints and antique touches, as well as custom colors. Only the finest California, Oregon and Washington pines are used for his sculptures. No two pieces of wood are identical; knots, grains and blemishes are unique to each piece and add to the romantic character of the resulting images that you see through-out his gallery.

Sugar CandyEach image is first carved full size by Oscar and his master carvers in the pattern shop. They are individually shaped and finished with the fine details that are usually found only in the finest hand carved carousel animals worldwide. Blending modern technology with old world craftsmanship, he produces the finest hand finished masterpieces.

Each sculpture is then finished by hand. Using finishing techniques that he has developed over his career, he is able to achieve an incredible level of deep vibrant colors and highlighted wood grain, second to none. Where appropriate, his finishing details include jewel decorations, special eyes, gilt highlights and authentic horse hair tails*. All of this is presented on a finished wooden base with brass finial.

The results are the images that you see here that any lover of carousels would want to own. Oscar sells his creations through Bruce Zubee's Carousels.com and CarouselStores.com websites. All of the profits from each sale go toward the maintenance and operation of the Carousels.com website.
