ELMIRA PHOTO OF THE MONTH - JANUARY 2010

Eldridge Park - Elmira, New York

his photo is courtesy of Kevin Todd of Webster, NY. Says Kevin, "Folks, this is a picture of my brother, Shawn, and me at the People's Gas Company picnic that was at Eldridge Park for many years. My grandparents (Kermit and Edith Todd) took my brother and me with them many years. Always had a great time. The Speedway was the FIRST roller coaster I ever rode in 1965 or 66. It started an addiction. This photo of the race cars in KiddieLand was taken by my grandfather in July, 1964. I hate that the picnic grove and the Midway and the rides were all killed by Hurricane Agnes and time."

Editor's Note: There's a restoration going on at Eldridge, as we speak, that is bringing the park back to us. Read more about it at the home page of the Eldridge Park Carousel Restoration Society. The merry-go-round, dragon boat, arcades, paddleboats, miniature golf, train - the park is again open every summer from Memorial Day thru Labor Day.
